After a hard week working I am a big fan of getting up on Saturday morning at some un-earthly hour (did I say fan!) to catch the early morning light, long shadows, mist etc. In order to take full advantage of this light I need to know where and at what time it will rise. |

We are all familier with the idea that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. However this is only strictly true for the spring and autumn equinox. Due to the tilting of the Earth's axis, during the year there is a great deal of variation. For example in the middle of summer the sun will rise in the NorthEast and in winter SouthEast. Below is a diagram depicting where the sun rises and sets for each month in the UK. This is available as a free download in either A4 or credit card size. |

Again due to the tilting of the Earth and your possition on it, sunrise and sunset times vary throughout the year. Below is an extract of a document you can download for free detailing every sunrise and sunset time for 4 different UK locations. Obviously times will vary depending upon your exact location in the UK. As an example for January 1st the sun will rise at 08:06am in London and 08:47am in Glasgow. However, I would strongly recommend you get to your chosen location well in advance. |
